Keelboat 1 - Basic Keelboat Sailing
ASA 101 is an introductory sailing course provided over 3 days on a 30' keelboat with a wheel helm. We sail in the West River and Chesapeake Bay.
Class Fee: $495

You must be a member of ANSA to take a class. Membership fees range from $55 to $75 depending on selected level. Please join ANSA after your successful registration for this class.
Race with ANSA's fleet in the Pirates Cove Racing Club Frostbite Series. There are 8 races from October 4 to November 22 on Sunday afternoons.
There will be a flat fee of $120 to participate in any or all of the series. The fee will be invoiced separately following your first Frostbite registration. Skippers fly for free! Crew and Skippers both are invited to register for each race that they can attend.
Race start time is 13:00, crew must be at "C" Dock at 12:00 noon to prepare vessels, assign crews and get underway.
Races are usually finished within two hours, so wrap up time may be 16:00, but sometimes later depending on wind conditions.
Do you know how to wrap a line on a winch, grind a winch, manage a mainsheet traveller, adjust jib car lead position, sit on the high side rail? Sailors should have sailing experience, through ASA 103 or equivalent, and understand basic sail trim concepts.
Please review the Sailing Instructions provided by PCRC which contain the rules as well as the courses and a chart of the racing marks.

Day Sail on Martha Jean, an O'Day 30, out of the West River.
The start time for this sail may be adjusted based on the Sail Plan for the day.

Bring a drink, lunch, and snacks and dress for the weather! Foul Weather Gear is advised, it could rain anytime. Sailing gloves, sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, clips for hats and glasses, PFD if you have one, and closed-toe shoes.
The fee for a day sail is $50. If you are a student this season and have not used your free sail, or have a gift certificate, select the volunteer/gift certificate option.

Close Quarters Maneuvering (Docking)
Learn to dock a wheel helm 30' vessel with prop wash and prop walk (no bowthruster) in a variety of conditions and locations.
This is a two day class. Class fee is $315.
You should have the equivalent training and experience of ASA 103, Basic Coastal Cruising, as a prerequisite. Additional class details and requirements HERE.
